Talks & Workshops

So you want to be a professional Artist? - Our expert panel of professional artists will give a lot of advice on what it's like to be a professional, the experiences they've had, how to pitch for projects and how to sort out your portfolio. Want to make that next big step, or just curious? Come along!
Alcon Convention Q&A - Got any questions? Fancy getting down into some detail on how certain things are done, or why? Interested in running your own convention or website, come along. Starring not so special guests, committee members!
Yaoi Panel - YAOI! Here you can learn about the various types of yaoi out there (as if you don't already know, you pervert) as well as see some videos, pics and more of our favourite male pairings (censored to save innocent eyes).
Japanese Culture Panels - Get a chance to learn more about Japanese Culture from Akemi Solloway! Whether it's kimino dressing, traditional Japanese tea-ceremony, Japanese life-style, or a language lesson there is something for all J-Culture fans here.
Hentai Panel - Watch as we steal away every inch of your childhood innocence, leaving you with nothing more than an empty feeling inside. Discussion on the place of yaoi in society as well as *ahem* other common yaoi conventions..
BJD Workshop - Asian-Ball-Jointed-Dolls (ABJDs), often called "Dollfies" are a special collection of dolls originating from Japan. The workshop/panel will teach those interested techniques and tools for making them.
Gundam Model Painting - Learn all you could want to know about the wonderful world of Gundam Models, from where they started, to where they are headed, the small figurines to the ones just to big for that bookcase - If you are already the proud owner of your own Mecha you can pick up some great tips on how to paint them for the ultimate finish!
Cosplay Workshops - A chance to chat with your fellow cosplayers, and exchange advice and tips on Cosplay construction. Are you great at styling wigs? Share your knowledge. Are you good at making giant robots out of card and foam? Give us your tips. You might just pick up some great advice, or maybe just some inspiration to get start on that Cosplay in the back of your mind

Cosplay Events
Taking place at the Level 1 building on the stage. Signups for these events will open in the next few days.
Cosplay Blind-Date - On the Thursday Evening (Yep, it's returning!). Signup and be given your date in cosplay blind-date! Note this is a skit only, not real!
Cosplay Skit Show - Friday Evening. Get a team together and start preparing for your skit now! Winning team shall receive a 50 pound prize!
Cosplay Masquerade - Saturday Evening.The old convention staple event that is the Masquerade. Would you like to show off your cosplay to masses? Perhaps perform a comedy sketch of some anime-based humor. Strut your stuff and have a great time at one of the greatest traditions of the anime world. Want to enter? Go signup at registrations/ops! There will be a 50 pound cash prize for the best entry as determined by our panel of judges, and a pick from the goodie-box for the best two runners-up. To be eligible for the prize in the masquerade, your costume must have been made by you. If your costume was bought off ebay, you are still allowed to enter, but you will not be able to win!
Cosplay Auction - Saturday Evening. Bid on your favourite cosplayer! The winner of each will get that cosplayer to go with them for one of the parties on either the Saturday or Sunday! Half of the proceeds will go the charity, so it's all for a good cause!
Cosplay Picnic - Sunday Afternoon.
Ready Steady Cosplay(!) - Sunday Afternoon. Even more frantic than the five-minute cosplay, you are given a matter of seconds to dress up using the various pieces of clothing and props we provide you with and stun the audience! Involves teams.
Other Stage Events
Taking place in the bar throughout the day and night-time. Come along, have a drink, and enjoy! More events to be confirmed shortly!
Battle of the Bands - Grab a team of four, get up on stage and compete in Rock Band! Imagine Guitar Hero, but ten times more epic, and you got the event!
Charity Auction - Various and unusual items available for taking. With at least 15% of each sale going to charity (up to as much as 100% on some items, we will say which ones), you can bid with enthusiasm! Always worth checking out. Best of luck with your bidding! If you have anything to donate, please report to ops.
YuGiOh/DBZ/Naruto Abridged Screenings - Get to watch the entire series on big-screen in the bar! Grab a pint and it's super-special-awesomeness!
Internet Hits Screenings - Alcon 2011 will see a greater empathesis on internet shows and series, such as the Abridged shows, and hopefully other titles such as Red v Blue, Angry Video Game Nerd and so forth (depending on permissions). Tell us what shows you'd like to see here
AMV Night & Contest
Video Gamers Night - Grab a team of four and come join the league as the party rages on! Compete for points, climb up that league, and make yourself known as the best all-round gamer of the con!
DDR Tournament - Whether you're a beginner or an expert, come along and take part in this one on one knockout to determine the best DDRer out there!
Pub Quiz - Various rounds on both anime and other more general subjects. A great event not to be missed. Get some friends together, make your own quiz team, and join in the fun. We guarantee a good time and much randomness. Be there or be square, but preferably be there!
Whose Line Is It Anime? - Based on the popular tv series, rounds will include Genres, Scenes and Props. Get your team together now!
AMV Contest - Come along and chillout to AMVs which have been created by you, the members! The best AMV as judged by the committee will win the Alcon AMV Award! Otaku Fashion Show - For those who lurve cosplay but dont really want to do anything other than be seen and admired there will be a Otaku Fashion Show! This is for boys and girls! Come on any bishie-wannabe's!
Dub That Anime - Get those teams together and start dubbing those anime! To enter simply turn up with your friends and your wit! Dub That Anime works by taking clips from anime episodes with the vocals removed, whereupon you have to re-dub them. The most amusing entries will win.

Late Night Anime Movies - Chill out upstairs in our late night cinema, away from all the music and watch anime until midnight with your fellow attendees!

Iron Artist - Do you have what it takes to earn the title of Iron Artist? Competitors battle it out against the clock, using all their ability and imagination as the winning takes all in a knock-out contest. Iron Artist will be ruthlessly judged by a top-notch panel of professional artists. There will also be a pro-version of this running.
Bring and Buy - The bring and buy will take place on the Sunday. Make sure to bring along your anime goods and we will sell them for you. Note that a 15% commission will be taken which will go toward con-funds.
Lazer-Questing - Now a yearly tradition, up to forty people can sign-up for a two hour lock-in later on in the evening! Cost and more info will go up shortly.
RPG Mashup - Characters from across existence and imagination band together to save the multiverse. As they battle their way to find the mastermind behind it all, they won't know where they will turn up next, as the locations are inspired by random words drawn from a hat!
Video gaming Tournaments - Throughout each day, the Video Gaming room will be running VG Tournies of various different games! Anyone can join in! Tell us what tournaments you would like to see here
Yu Gi Oh Tournament - A chance to show your skills at a children's card game.
